About This Quote

This is a well-known saying and is the main theme of the movie, “There’s Something About Mary.” Mary Shannon, played by Cameron Diaz, is a woman who is very attractive and seems to be interested in Ben Stiller. When he first meets her, he sees her as a potential friend and then as a potential love interest. He doesn’t see her as a person he can be himself around. In many ways, this is true for many people.

We have to have certain expectations from ourselves so that we can be ourselves around others. If we don’t feel comfortable being ourselves, we will not feel comfortable around others.
